The Los Angeles Community Partners membership is made up of interesting parties representing national, state and city parks, environmental education and action groups, community agencies, nonprofits, and concerned private businesses. Listed below are links to many of the partners.


California Department of Parks and Recreation
The mission of the California Departemnt of Parks and Recreation is to provide for the health, inspiration and education of the people of California by helping to preserve the state's extraordinary biological diversity, protecting it most valued natural and cultural resources and creating opportunities for high-quality outdoor recreation. The Department conducts various programs to enhance services to local communities. Channel Islands National Park
The National Park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. The Park Service cooperates with partners to extend the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country and the world.

City of L.A. -- Environmental Affairs Department
The Environmental Affairs Department was established by ordinance on June 29, 1989 to establish a capability within the City to address environmental issues in a coordinated and centralized manner. Environmental issues have increasingly become a concern in many of the activities affecting the City, its residents and businesses. These issues include the City's ability to deal with contaminated properties and hazardous wastes, and quality of life and health issues, such as the cleanliness of Santa Monica Bay, siting of solid waste handling facilities and compliance with federal, state and regional efforts to achieve clean air.

  Crenshaw / Dorsey RESCUE
Part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, its mission is to educate young people and their families in areas of environmental awareness and create job opportunities/vocational interests in careers with National and State Parks. Earth Systems Science, Inc.

  Esperenza Community Housing Corp.
Esperanza Community Housing Corporation works to achieve comprehensive and long-term community development in the Maple/Adams-Hoover/Adams neighborhood of South-Central Los Angeles. Community residents of all ages and ethnicities are the foundation of Esperanza’s grassroots work. Esperanza seeks to create opportunities for community residents’ growth, security, participation, recognition, and ownership through developing and preserving affordable housing, creating opportunities for child care, ensuring quality education, promoting accessible health care, stimulating involvement in arts and culture, pursuing economic development, and advocating for progressive public policy. Through partnerships with churches, schools, block clubs and other community institutions, Esperanza helps to strengthen the social infrastructure of the neighborhood. Expo Environmental Group
Developing Tree Care Programs, community awareness programs, environmental education for youth and families, disaster awareness programs, and community resource sharing programs. L.A. Works
L.A. Works was founded in 1991 by a group of concerned citizens from the Entertainment, Business and Government sectors to:

- Increase volunteer participation in community service projects
- Provide community service organizations with access to volunteer labor and other resources
- Educate and encourage people to engage in the broader social issues affecting the Los Angeles community.

On a weekly basis, L.A. Works offers a variety of community service projects. L.A. Works' volunteers work hand-in-hand with over 800 non-profit social service agencies throughout the city in order to improve the quality of life in our communities.

Los Angeles Conservation Corps
The Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC), based in South Central and East Los Angeles, is one of the largest independent non-profit agencies in the nation. Founded in 1986 by former U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Mickey Kantor, the LACC employs approximately 300 young adults as corpsmembers and 2,200 junior high and high school students annually to serve the greater Los Angeles community through environmental enhancement and community improvement projects.

  Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority
The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) was created in 1985 with a mission to protect and preserve park and open space lands within the Santa Monica Mountains, the mountains surrounding the San Fernando, San Gabriel, La Crescenta, Simi and Conejo Valleys, the Whittier/Puente Hills, and the Los Angeles River and its tributaries. The MRCA is a joint powers authority between the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, a California state agency, the Conejo Recreation and Park District and the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District.
Under the auspices of the MRCA, these public agencies work together to preserve the open spaces, natural wilderness and wildlife habitat of the Los Angeles and Ventura County metropolitan regions and to make these lands accessible to all residents of Southern California.

National Parks Conservation Association
The Pacific Region Office of NPCA (PARO) works to protect parks and enhance the visitor experience for national parks in California, Hawaii, American Samoa and Guam. PARO efforts include educating the public about issues facing our parks as well as providing opportunities for individuals to experience national parks in this region. Through our involvement with the Community Partners Program, PARO works with other partners to educate and extend park opportunities to those who have historically been underrepresented or underserved by the national park system. North East Trees
Our purpose is to engage in educational, scientific, investigative, artistic, literary, historical, philanthropic, and charitable pursuits, to protect and restore the natural and historic communities, and to preserve the natural character of their lands for these purposes. We support and encourage communities to reflect these values through urban forestry, preservation, creative planning, education and wise stewardship.

Outward Bound Adventures
Providing nature-based education that promotes self development, environmental responsiblity, and outdoor career exposure for low-income, and at-risk urban youth. For more information contact Charles Thomas at obainc@earthlink.net

  Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy
Through direct action, alliances, partnerships, and joint powers authorities, the Conservancy’s mission is to strategically buy back, preserve, protect, restore, and enhance treasured pieces of Southern California to form an interlinking system of urban, rural, and river parks; open space; trails; and wildlife habitats that are easily accessible to the general public.

  The Wildlands Conservancy
The Wildlands Conservancy joins the battle with people around the globe to preserve the natural world.

  The Wildwoods Foundation
The Wildwoods Foundation provides outdoor programming for young people to help them acquire a sense of stewardship for the natural world, responsibility for their role in the community and the tools to achieve emotional well-being. Troutco provides consulting solutions and services to assist businesses, organizations and individuals manage work efficiently.   Trust for Public Lands
Land conservation is central to TPL's mission. Founded in 1972, the Trust for Public Land is the only national nonprofit working exclusively to protect land for human enjoyment and well-being. TPL helps conserve land for recreation and spiritual nourishment and to improve the health and quality of life of American communities.

U.S. Forest Service
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service is a Federal agency that manages public lands in national forests and grasslands. The Forest Service is also the largest forestry research organization in the world, and provides technical and financial assistance to state and private forestry agencies. Gifford Pinchot, the first Chief of the Forest Service, summed up the purpose of the Forest Service—"to provide the greatest amount of good for the greatest amount of people in the long run."

  Woodcraft Rangers
The Mission of Woodcraft Rangers is to promote healthy youth development, especially in impacted neighborhoods that offer limited growth opportunities.  Provided in a group environment, customized camping experiences and education, enrichment and recreation programs nurture self-reliance, leadership abilities, enhance problem-solving aptitude and foster a child's bonding with family, community and peers.
